Hello from Washington State

Dear Students,

Monday already?! I have no idea where the time goes! So I 'd like you all to know that my niece's wedding was lovely and the reception was loads of fun! The confluence of The Snake River and The Columbia River is amazing and the wedding venue was at the home of family friends who live in sight of this. I need to go back there and take some pictures before I fly home. Please say hi to Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Sprague for me.

I hope all is well with you all. I know it's challenging to have a substitute teacher for a whole week but if you have any questions about homework, please feel free to comment as I'll get back to you. A couple of you have already and they've been excellent questions.

I'll see you soon. Looking forward to seeing you. I am sooooo grateful I was able to make this trip and want to thank each of you for your patience and cooperation with the Mrs. Harmon. I'll try to post again tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Leighton

Senator Susan Collins Visits

Wow! How lucky we are to have Senator Susan Collins visit Hancock Grammar School! Our students shared an overview of the Pennies for Peace Campaign that took place at Hancock Grammar School and the book they read, Three Cups of Tea.  She was so interested in what the students had done with this project, and she also shared her experiences when she went to Pakistan.  She was very proud of our students and community for making a difference.  We ended the visit with cookies and tea!  What an experience!

On Wednesday, February 24, sixth graders will be going to the University of Maine to see a play called, "Are You Ready, My Sister?"  This play tells the exciting story of Harriet Tubman, great "conductor" on the Underground Railroad, and the Quaker women who helped her bring 300 slaves to freedom.

We will be leaving the school around 9:00 a.m. and return around 1:30 p.m. We will be eating in the commons, and students may bring a bag lunch or purchase lunch there.  It should be an incredible experience!
