Writing/Reading: Students need to make sure they have a biography about a person who has made a significant impact on our country.  I have many books in my room and there are also many in the library. Please ask your child who they want to learn more about. We will be reading about this person and then writing about him/her. We are hoping to have a living Wax Museum to present to family and other students.

Homework March 12

We will be starting MEA testing next week, but there will be activities to get students energized!

Spelling: Unit 21  Learning to spell words with the suffix with er or or
enter, water, silver, shower, danger, bitter, wonder, thunder, master, rather, gather, winter, whether, together, eager, either, neither

Second page ~ 141

Writing: If you have not finished your book review you need to work on it. Students should have at least 3 paragraphs and they have been given a template to use as a guide.  Have your child share what they have so far if he/she can get into google docs. One strategy I have shared with them is to read it softly to themselves or someone else to see if it makes sense and flows like it should.

Reading: Read for 1/2 hour

Writing:  Students need to have at least 3 paragraphs for their book review.  We started it last week. They have had 3 or 4 class periods to work on the review.  (Some students weren't done with the opinion writing so it may be 3 class periods for them.)

First paragraph: Introduce the book, author, genre, and tell a little about the main character and what the struggle or problem may be.  You should also include the theme,

Second paragraph: Short summary of major events.

Third paragraph: Describe one of the characters ~ Give details from the story~

4th paragraph:  What did you like best about the book? Why would someone want to read it? What did the author do well? Give examples from the story to support your reasons.

Salmon Eggs are here!

We are so excited because we got our salmon eggs!  Students got to observe the eggs and they got to see the eyes, backbone, and the heart.  Charlie Kelley, who is part of the Salmon Federation, spent a great deal of time in our classroom explaining the life cycle and what the students' roles will be while we have them.

We hope to see everyone during Literacy Night tonight! Students worked hard printing all of their writings to show you.  They will also show you the slide shows they made about Atlantic Salmon.

I didn't give any homework because of Literacy Night!
