October 30

Reading: Read for 1/2 hour

For Veteran's Day 4th grade students will be sharing information about a person they know who served or is serving in the military.  It does not have to be someone they are related to, so a close friend could work as well.

Information they should be asking includes: The person's name, branch of service, how long they served, rank, something special about them, special memories of being in the service, any awards, etc.

Some students still have not edited their narrative so they should continue to edit.

Writing: Work on personal narrative - Make sure to have your thoughts and feelings, sensory imagery, and have included dialogue....

We have also been learning when to start a new paragraph such as when a new event happens or an new setting.

We have read many examples of personal narratives.   Examples of personal narratives from Write Source  https://k12.thoughtfullearning.com/resources/studentmodels#Grade 4

Reading: Read for 1/2 hour - Finish reading response which should be 5 - 6 sentences.  Students were given a sheet from which to choose from. This should be from the character's point of view so more like a diary entry or journal entry. For example.... I am so upset because.......

October 16

Reading: Read for 1/2 hour

Spelling: Work on first page of Unit 7 if you have not completed it

Writing: Work on Personal Narrative - You should have two paragraphs with at least 5 to 6 sentences in each. Remember a personal narrative should have your sensory imagery, your thoughts and feelings, and dialogue. You are not just listing events because you want to grab the reader's attention.

You should also be looking where you need to start a new paragraph.  Remember what we learned in class. You start a new paragraph when there is a new event, new setting, or someone new is speaking.

If you don't have access to google docs you can do you writing on paper and then type it up when you are in class.  Remember to add detail.
