On Thursday, December 1, students will be going to the Grand to see the play, The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe. We will be leaving in the morning around 9:00 and returning at 11:30.

6S Reading: Finish reading the Tall Tale Paul Bunyan and do Book Nooks -(Respond to two questions - should be a paragraph in length) Also list the extreme exaggeration in the story.

6W - Read for at least a 1/2 hour and do 2 questions for Book Nook - You need to add details from the story in your responses. Should be at least a paragraph for each question. Try to do your best handwriting so Mrs. Sprague can read it. One last reminder - Please write in complete sentences and punctuate where needed.

4th Annual Food Drive

It's that time of year again! We are looking for donations of nonperishable canned and boxed goods to benefit the Loaves and Fishes food pantry. We will be collecting food from Novemver 1st - November 15th. The class that collects the most food items will be going by bus to help deliver the food to the pantry. We appreciate your donations. The sixth graders have worked really hard sending post cards to all of the other states. We finally have mission accomplished. The students are also enjoying learning about all the other states. Reading - Read for 1/2 hour - As you are reading find two examples of showing not telling in the story! You will be sharing with the class so choose the one that you think is the best example.

Language Arts: Do a prewriting activity for your narrative writing. List all the important information you think should be included in your story. (setting, characters, important events, feelings. etc. )

Study your spelling words!!! Test on Friday! Students only have 5 words and have learned strategies for helping them remember.

Students who are working on the Book Talk should have the 3rd paragraph done. This should be major events that you want to share with your audience! What events do your listeners need to know to understand the story! Your closing paragraphs should be what you think the author does well. This could be the showing not telling.

On Friday 5th and 6th graders went to Acadia National Park, where they learned a great deal about bird migration and why the biologists put bands on them. Students saw the mist nets, which are used to capture the birds, and how the birds get weighed. They even saw Mars, but you will have to ask your child about that sighting. We even had lunch on top of Cadillac Mountain.

Dear Students,
I hope you all had an easy transition into sixth grade. It has been wonderful to get to know you all, and I am so excited to have such an amazing group of students. We will have a fantastic year!

In reading, we have already worked on strategy goals and "Pages We Want to Read" goal. We even have two students getting ready to do a book talk this week. The rest of us can't wait to hear about the books you think we should read!

In math we have learned about finding patterns, determining a rule, and understanding what it means to find a general rule. Wow! How amazing! Mrs. Sprague is proud of you!

Upcoming Events- Sixth Grade will be going to Acadia with Mr. Haskell on Thursday, June 2. They are leaving around 8:30 and returning about 2:00.This is part of the Science Curriculum.

June 1, Wednesday - At Hancock Grammar School there will be a 5 - 8 Band Concert at 6:30 (Ella Lewis School will also be there) There will also be a concert during the day, at 1:00, at the Ella Lewis School

On Tuesday, April 26, Grade 6S and Mrs. Morrison's first grade will be going to the Grand to make a movie. Actually, we are making a small video clip about how to act while going on a field trip. We will be there for about 30 minutes! Wish us luck!

Students who have no demerits will be going on a merit trip to Ellsworth Bowling Lanes on January 10. We will be leaving school at 12:05 and returning at the end of the day.
