Mr. Nickerson's class should finish the second page of Unit 16.
Mrs. Sprague's class can practice the words because we did not get to spelling today.  All of the words are under the Tuesday's post. 

Writing: You need to finish the movie review. The Ellsworth American is going to publish 5 movie reviews.  Students are voting on the top 5, along with Mrs.Sprague and Mr. Nickerson. 

Reading: Read for 1/2 hour

Social Studies: Continue to work on travel brochure over Monument Valley. Students have been given two handouts about Monument Valley so they have information to include the brochure!

Reading: Read for 1/2 hour

Writing: Movie Review is due on Wednesday ~  Remember to add your voice throughout the review! For example: It was so amazing it had me sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie!  If you liked action packed movies than this movie is for you!

5 paragraphs include:

1st paragraph: introduction with the name of the movie, type of movie, and how you liked it

2nd paragraph: What is it mainly about? Don't give away the ending

3rd paragraph: Who were the main characters and how would you describe them?

4th paragraph: What stood out for you as  the most interesting part?

5th paragraph: Restate why you liked it, but in a different way.

Reading: Tomorrow is independent reading; Bring any books you have to conference on, and most importantly bring an independent reading book!

Writing: Students should be on their 3rd or 4th paragraph. Mr. Nickerson's room is on their 3rd paragraph and my homeroom should be on their 4th paragraph. The 4th paragraph should be about what stood out for them as the most interesting part, or maybe they really liked a certain character, or maybe they really loved the animation or settings.

Writing: Students should have 3 paragraphs for their movie review; All the students have written them in google docs so they could continue writing at home if they are not done. Please ask your child to read what they have so far, which is a strategy they can use to see if it makes sense.  

Look at a previous post from this week to help with the structure of the review. 

Social Studies: Students are writing a Travel Brochure and should be taking notes on Monument Valley. I have shown them 2 links from the blog that provides information about it.  

They need to write down information about the geography, where is it located? What landforms are there? How wide is it? What is the climate there?

History Who owns Monument Valley?  How long have these people lived there?

What could you do if you visited this place?

Reading: Continue to work on reading goal; read for 1/2 hour

In reading we have also been learning how to pick out the main idea from a nonfiction text. We have been reading passages from the website, Readworks.org.   Have your child show you the passage we read today. It was about Pandas!

Spelling: There will be a quiz on Thursday over Unit 15 words- We are learning words that have silent letters. (Spelling List - often, knot, wring, island, lamb, answer, knee, written,
though, knock, echo, known, comb, wrong, limb, knife, listen, honest, doubt, calm)

Writing: Students are working on a movie review.  They all should have two paragraphs.  First paragraph is introducing the movie, genre, and how they liked it. Second paragraph is to give a summary of the plot without giving away the ending.  Tomorrow we will be working on describing the main characters.

We will be taking Reading NWEA's on Tuesday, January 23 and Wednesday, January 24 next week. Mr. Nickerson's class will be taking them on Tuesday and Mrs. Sprague's class on Wednesday.

Spelling: We are on Unit 15 and students need to finish the first page if they did not get it done in class!  Our spelling test will be next Thursday instead of Friday!

Writing: We have started writing Movie Reviews. Students need to pick a children's movie to write their review over.  Students should have their movie picked out to start writing their reviews.

Reading: Independent reading is tomorrow so students should have an independent reading book and any books they may need to conference over.

Social Studies: Mrs. Sprague's class has a social studies quiz over chapter 8. They were given a study guide and also shown how to get into TCI to play a game that will help them study.

January 8

Feels so good to be back in school and back to a normal routine!  It was great to see the students again!

Writing: Some students have not finished their opinion writing.  So they need to finish this week. They were told today if they still had work to do. 

Reading homework: Students should be reading every night not meet their reading goal they set at the beginning of the trimester!

Social Studies: Mr. Nickerson's class got their social studies quizzes back today, and they did a great job!

Mrs. Sprague's class has a social studies quiz on Wednesday over the Midwest. This is Chapter 8 pages 135 - 146.  They can also use the quizlet from the blog to study.

We did a jeopardy game over the chapter today!  We will also be getting accounts for social studies so students can use the online version of the book.  Mr. Nickerson's class has their usernames and passwords to get in.  Mrs. Sprague's class will get them tomorrow.

Spelling: We are on Unit 14 and will be having a quiz on Friday over this unit. They should be working on pages 2 or 3.
