December 5

Spelling: Students should work on page 3 of Unit 11

Writing: Students were to finish the second paragraph of their nervous writing and practicing the strategy of showing and not telling on Tuesday.

Today we started another writing where students are still practicing the strategy of showing and not telling in their writing, but this time it is about a time when they were excited about something. For students who could not think of anything, I asked them to write about being excited for the ice cream sundae reward we had on Friday. They were definitely excited and were eager to bring in goodies and share what we should have for toppings!

Reading: Practice those math multiplication facts

December 4

Writing: Students are to write another paragraph about a time when they were nervous. We have been working on showing and not telling.   Three ways to show and not tell include:
1. adding similes or metaphors (which we have been learning about as well),
2. adding imagery, (such as a my teeth were chattering, my body felt like a volcano, .......)
3. adding thoughts and feelings (I thought to myself, "I can't do this!")

(It needs to be at least two paragraphs showing they understand the concept of showing and not tell)
