The Echoing Green

http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/246770

The Ecchoing Green

By William Blake
The sun does arise,
And make happy the skies.
The merry bells ring
To welcome the Spring.
The sky-lark and thrush,
The birds of the bush,
Sing louder around,
To the bells’ cheerful sound.
While our sports shall be seen
On the Ecchoing Green.

Old John, with white hair
Does laugh away care,
Sitting under the oak,
Among the old folk,
They laugh at our play,
And soon they all say.
‘Such, such were the joys.
When we all girls & boys,
In our youth-time were seen,
On the Ecchoing Green.’

Till the little ones weary
No more can be merry
The sun does descend,
And our sports have an end:
Round the laps of their mothers,
Many sisters and brothers,
Like birds in their nest,
Are ready for rest;
And sport no more seen,
On the darkening Green.

Great First Day of School!

I think all students had a great day!  We learned a little about each other and we worked as a team to reach a goal!  Great first day fifth graders!

Students were asked to show you the grade 5 blog and to show you the new Hancock Grammar School's website!  They should also be able to show you the student handbook! There is a great deal of information for parents in the handbook.

Fifth grade students can also take part in cross country this year!  I will be giving students forms to take home if they want to join. Practice has started today, but it is not too late to join.  They will also need a physical before then can start running.

Open House

Open house is September 16 at 6:30. We hope to see you all then!
